Vintage Berber Moroccan Carpet

I bought this carpet at the spice market in Marrakech from an old man that I always visited in late afternoon. He was very wealthy and had endless stories to tell. While drinking tea and tasting Moroccan pastries, his assistants always paraded with beautiful carpets or fabrics in front of me. That’s how I started to draw attention to these simple checkered Berber carpets. I really liked the red dye on this one. Another aspect of this particular carpet is the many different colors you find on the backside. I always wondered where it was made and how the women looked who made these beautiful pieces.
